Mark L. Shaffer

Principal and Managing Member

Mark Shaffer is the Firm’s principal and Managing Member. He has 40 years of experience in a broad range of practice areas. He has developed expertise in several areas of the law including commercial, civil, government contracts, and criminal litigation; fraud forensic investigations; government contracts proposal writing and contract management; intellectual property security and licensing; for profit business formation, governance, investment and finance; non-profit business formation, tax exemption applications, and financial compliance; employment; construction; and real estate development.

Prior to founding The Shaffer Law Firm, Mr. Shaffer was a partner in other smaller firms in the DC Metropolitan area. Mr. Shaffer also served as Senior Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, Employment Litigation Section where he received two Attorney General’s Outstanding Achievement Awards. Mr. Shaffer served as Associate Majority Counsel for the United States House of Representatives October Surprise Task force, which investigated allegations of violations of the Logan Act by interfering with the release of the Iranian Hostages.

Mr. Shaffer is an Adjunct Faculty member of the George Washington University Law School where he teaches Trial Practice. He has previously lectured on the legal rights and obligations of government contractors; protection of intellectual property and trade secret rights; minimizing liability exposure in real estate acquisition and development transactions; and legal ethics. Mr. Shaffer has counseled and served on several Boards of Directors for non-profit corporations.
